Project Overview The Mosque Construction & Development Project is a flagship initiative of Zunairah Islamic Charity Organization Uganda (ZICO Uganda) dedicated to improving access to safe, dignified, and well-equipped places of worship for Muslim communities across Uganda. The project responds to the growing need for adequate Islamic infrastructure by supporting the construction of new mosques, renovation of existing ones, expansion of overcrowded facilities, and development of complementary community services. Many Muslim communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas, lack permanent mosques or worship in temporary structures that are unsafe, overcrowded, or unable to accommodate increasing numbers of worshippers. Through this project, ZICO Uganda works with local leaders, donors, and community members to establish sustainable Islamic centers that serve not only as places of worship but also as centers for education, unity, peacebuilding, and community development. Beyond physical construction, the project promotes spiritual growth, strengthens Islamic identity, and creates welcoming spaces where people of all ages can gather for daily prayers, Jumu'ah prayers, Qur'an study, Islamic education, community meetings, counseling, and humanitarian activities. Project Goal To improve access to safe, accessible, and sustainable Islamic places of worship by constructing, renovating, equipping, and maintaining mosques and related facilities that promote faith, education, unity, and community development. Project Objectives Construct new mosques in underserved and rapidly growing Muslim communities. Renovate and expand existing mosques that have deteriorated or become too small for their congregations. Build clean and accessible ablution (Wudhu) facilities and sanitary washrooms. Establish Islamic schools (Madrasahs) and Qur'an learning centers attached to mosques. Construct community prayer halls and Islamic resource centers. Provide furniture, carpets, Qur'ans, sound systems, shelves, and other essential mosque equipment. Improve accessibility for women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities. Promote proper mosque management, maintenance, and environmental cleanliness. Encourage community ownership and long-term sustainability of mosque facilities.
